2015 Revised Underground Storage Tank Regulations
As many of you are aware, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on June 22 issued final underground storage tank system testing and inspection regulations, marking the first significant revision to the regulations since they were issued in 1988 (notwithstanding the 1998 upgrade regulations). In issuing the rule, EPA said the revised requirements include: adding secondary containment requirements for new and replaced tanks and piping; adding operator training requirements (currently in widespread implementation based on the 2005 Energy Act requirements and state implementation); adding periodic operation and maintenance requirements for UST systems; removing past deferrals for emergency generator tanks, airport hydrant systems, and field-constructed tanks; adding new release prevention and detection technologies; updating codes of practice; and updating state program approval requirements to incorporate these new changes.

UST Operator Training - HELP!
The 2005 Energy Act required that each state adopt regulations for Operator Training and with the deadline looming (August 8, 2012 for most states) owners/operators are asking questions.

NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR MONTHLY UST SYSTEM & COMPLIANCE INSPECTIONS
As most of you probably know, the EPA is moving forward to promulgate new regulations requiring frequent (every 30 days as a matter of fact) UST system inspections to be performed by a Class B operator or it’s designee for their respective sites.

EPA Strengthening 1988 Regulations
Are you aware that the first time since federal regulations regarding underground storage tanks (USTs) were first promulgated in 1988, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing significant changes and additions to these regulations? The proposed rulemaking includes new requirements for USTs primarily focusing on proper operation and maintenance, training, additional release detection requirements and testing of secondary systems and spill prevention.

CT DEEP UST Petroleum Cleanup Program revocation
Connecticut’s Underground Storage Tank Petroleum Cleanup Program is in danger of loosing their approval from the EPA as a mechanism of financial responsibility. The program was created to serve as an alternative to private insurance to gas station owners who could not get insurance through the private sector.
