I have an Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) monitoring my tanks. Do I need to do anything else to meet release detection requirements?

Having an Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) is a helpful step in meeting your compliance requirements, however there is more to release detection than just having the equipment in place.  You must continuously monitor the ATG and retain records from it to be in compliance with release detection requirements.  Whether you use the ATG to perform static in tank testing, or use the sensors to perform interstitial monitoring, the ATG itself only runs the tests and monitors the sensors you ask it to.  It is up to the facility to make sure the correct things are programmed and the tests are running and passing the way they are supposed to.  Additionally, when a problem is detected, there are actions that need to be taken.  This is why it is so important to have a sound understanding of the capabilities of the ATG and to constantly be watching the status of your ATG.
